Man to face court charged with driving car at police officer

A man will face court charged with driving at a police officer and crashing into a street sign before fleeing with his car's lights turned off at night.

The 39-year-old man will face the ACT Magistrates Court on Friday charged with aggravated furious reckless driving while disqualified.

Police allege the man at 4am Thursday was driving a Toyota hatchback when he failed to stop for police in Gilmore.

He drove at a police officer before crashing into a street sign and a parked car, and fleeing, according to police.

Police said they saw the Gilmore man driving a damaged Mercedes at about 3.30pm and arrested him.

They charged him with aggravated furious/reckless/dangerous driving, two counts of driving while disqualified, failing to stop a motor vehicle for police and property damage.
