Man to appear in court over assault on garda in Inchicore, south Dublin

A man is due to appear in court for assaulting a garda in south Dublin on Monday.

The 24-year-old was arrested yesterday after he attacked the garda who was trying to help a man who had been stabbed.

The garda received a cut to the head in the incident.

Gardai in Kilmainham were called to St. Vincent's Street West, Inchicore at around 2.30am on Monday, Dublin Live reports.

A 25-year-old man was stabbed by a 24-year-old man and while the injured party lay on the ground, the attacker tried to assault him again.

An officer on the scene tried to intervene and received a laceration to his head.

A garda spokesperson said: "The 24 year old man arrested, to date, in this investigation has been charged in relation to the assault on the Garda member.

"He is due to appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice, Court 4, today 31/03/2020, at 10:30am.

"The investigation into the initial assault remains ongoing."
