Man to appear in court charged with attempted robbery following alleged incident at Washington shop

A man is set to appear in court after an alleged attempted robbery in Washington.

A shopkeeper was allegedly threatened with a firearm and told to hand over money at the Best One shop on Front Street in Concord.

Police were called to the scene following the report at around 6pm on December 27.

Officers say that following a short altercation with the shopkeeper, the man fled the scene empty-handed and nobody was injured.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "An investigation was launched into the incident, and police arrested a 31-year-old man in connection with their enquiries.

"Christopher Allison, 31, of Johnson Terrace, Sulgrave, has now been charged with attempted robbery and possessing an imitation firearm.

"He is due to appear before magistrates in South Tyneside today (Monday)."
