Man throws 'whole strawberry cheesecake' at First Bus driver

A bus was evacuated in Bedminster after a man threw a cheesecake at the driver.

He chucked the strawberry-flavoured dessert when the 24 service stopped outside St John's Road's Asda store on Wednesday afternoon (May 12). First Bus apologised for any disruption and said it has a zero-tolerance policy on abuse of staff.

A Reddit user posted on the social media platform: "I haven't been on a bus in months and we all had to leave it within minutes because a maskless man threw a whole cheesecake at the driver.

"On the replacement, less cakey bus, I heard someone explain the incident on their phone with the phrase: 'Bedminster, innit.'"

The Redditor, who did not wish to be named, said it was a strawberry cheesecake. He described the attack as "abrupt and inexplicable".

"I didn't hear what caused the cheesecake to be thrown exactly," he added. "The guy had got on a few stops before and was getting off which was the weirdest thing. Like, what riled him up so much as he was leaving?

"Something I would like to add though, as it seems a nice detail amidst the sudden violence, is that the folk on that bottom tier of the bus were really lovely to the driver. Some even offered him their personal phone numbers if he needed witness statements."

First Bus says it has not reported the incident to police, but it has been "reported internally".

Chris Hanson, operations director at First West of England, said: “We can confirm that there was an incident on Wednesday afternoon on a service 24 bus involving a member of the public throwing a cheesecake at the bus driver.

"All customers were transferred onto another service to allow the original bus to be taken for cleaning.

“Our number one priority is the safety and wellbeing of our passengers, drivers and the public. We have a zero-tolerance policy for any form of abuse directed at our staff, and we apologise for the disruption and any distress that this isolated incident caused to our customers.”
