Man throws glass in Prestwick neighbour row

A neighbour dispute about social work ‘grass’ resulted in a man throwing a glass at a woman.

Sean Ahern, 26, of James Brown Avenue, Ayr, appeared at the town’s sheriff court last week and admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner.

A woman who was also charged did not appear in court.

The offence happened at Pine House, Woodpark, Prestwick, on December 22.

Fiscal depute Scott Toal said: “The complainer lives in the same building as the accused and his partner.

“About 7am the complainer heard banging on the door. The complainer opened the door to have a discussion about what the problem was about.

“The female co-accused believed she had phoned social work on her. She was shouting and bawling.”

It was at this point that Ahern joined in before throwing a glass at the victim.

Ahern’s solicitor said: “He’s experienced a number of difficulties over many months.

“I appreciate somebody else caused this but he should not have been involved.

“The parties have moved on. He lives away from this address.”

He added: “His record does him no credit but there is nothing else outstanding.”

The solicitor said two people close to the case allegedly had threatened Ahern and his co-accused at a previous court appearance and they needed a police escort from the premises.

Sheriff Desmond Leslie ordered Ahern to do 150 hours of unpaid work and put him under supervision for 18 months.
