Man thrown off bus in Swansea after allegedly shouting and spitting in driver's face

A man on a Swansea bus allegedly spat and swore at the driver and fellow passengers and had to be thrown off the service.

Police are now investigating the incident, which took place on the number 16 bus to Waunarlwydd at around 4pm on Tuesday, September 8.

Fellow passengers allege that the man was acting aggressively whilst on the bus, and First say the driver stepped in to "avoid further escalation".

Giving her account of events, Manon Evans, who was a passenger on the bus at the time, said: "This guy, high off his face, started swearing, spitting and being aggressive to passengers as well as the driver, and not even wearing his mask on the bus.

"The driver asked if he could tone it down and the guy started shouting in the driver's face with no mask or anything, spitting and swearing in his face.

"The driver was on the phone to the police and this guy started saying 'Was I out of order?'.

"This old guy confronted him with the driver.

"The driver grabbed the guy and literally chucked him off the bus."

She added: "He was just protecting his customers from this vile horrible person."

A First Cymru spokesman said: “We can confirm there was an incident on Service 16 yesterday where a customer breached our conditions of travel.

"Our driver asked the individual on a number of occasions to modify his behaviour or leave.

"When he refused our driver contacted the police to ask for their assistance, but decided to intervene himself and removed the individual to avoid further escalation.

"Incidents of this nature are very rare.”

First would not go into further detail when asked about the nature of his behaviour.

A South Wales Police spokeswoman added: "We received a call re an aggressive man on a bus on the B4259 near Cockett lights at about 3.55pm yesterday.

"Inquiries are ongoing and anyone with information should contact 101 quoting occurrence 2000328460."
