Man thrown from tray of ute in Mitchell single-car crash

A man was taken to hospital with serious injuries after he was thrown from the back of a ute during a single-car crash last weekend.

Police say the man was riding unrestrained in the tray of the ute while it was driving on Flemington Road in Mitchell on Saturday night.

An ACT police spokesman said the car crashed about 11.20pm, causing the man to be thrown from the ute and onto the road. The man was taken by ambulance to hospital.

ACT police are investigating the circumstances behind the crash.

"Police would like to remind people of the dangers of travelling unrestrained in vehicles," the police spokesman said.

"As we have seen in this incident, it can have tragic consequences."

Police have called for anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who has dash-cam footage to contact ACT police on 131 444.
