Man threw coffee over trial witness in court

A man who was to have been a prosecution witness in an assault trial had a cup of coffee thrown at him inside Perth Sheriff Court.

Background reports have now been ordered on 41-year-old Steven Hepburn - and he will discover his fate on December 4.

He admitted the assault on Dean McCaskill which took place in the Tay Street building on November 4.

Hepburn, formerly of Millbank, Main Street, Crook of Devon, was subject to a September 19, 2019, bail order from the Perth court at the time, banning him from contacting or getting in touch with Dean or Katrina McCaskill in any way.

That special condition was flouted on November 4 when the coffee incident took place.

That same day, Hepburn had been fined a total of £540 when he changed his plea and admitted brandishing a steering lock and shouting and swearing and threatening Mr McAskill with violence.

That confrontation took place at the corner of High Street and Swansacre, Kinross, on June 7, 2019.

The accused also pled guilty to having the offensive weapon in his possession.

Sheriff Keith O’Mahony ordered a community justice social work report and a restriction of liberty order assessment on Hepburn before passing sentence.

Hepburn, now of Colearn Street, Glasgow, had his bail continued meantime. The order banning him from contacting Dean or Katrina McCaskill remains in force.
