Man threw bricks at ex-partner's home saying ‘I’m going to pan all the windows’

A man arrested for throwing bricks at his ex-partner’s windows defied a police order and went straight back to her home when he was released.

Thomas McDougall, 28, was fined £320 at Hamilton Sheriff Court this week.

He admitted threatening or abusive behaviour in Freesia Court, Motherwell, on May 23.

McDougall also admitted breaching an order by returning to the address the next morning.

Jennifer Cunningham, prosecuting, said McDougall and his partner split recently after seven years together. They have two children.

He turned up at 8.45pm, pushed his way past his ex at the door and called her names.

The woman managed to get McDougall out of the house. He was then seen by a neighbour to pick up bricks and hurl them, saying ‘I’m going to pan all the windows’.

The police arrived and McDougall was arrested.

He spent the night in a cell and was released the next morning on condition that he attend court in August and stay away from his ex’s home.

However, he was seen in Freesia Court at 8.40 that morning.

Defence agent Tracy Paterson said her client, who lives in Larkhall, had gone to the house to pick up a document.

She stated: “He had been drinking and it seems the wounds regarding the relationship breaking down are raw.

“When released the next morning he hadn’t fully sobered up and was not thinking straight when he went back to his ex’s house.”
