Man threatens to spit in person's face then threatens police with scaffolding board

A man who threatened to spit at someone in the face and hit police with a scaffolding board has been sent to prison.

A report of a man being aggressive toward and threatening to spit in the face of another resident was responded to by the Bassetlaw, Newark and Sherwood Neighbourhood Support Unit on Wednesday, April 8.

The officer was unable to locate the suspect, but after speaking with colleagues from the Neighbourhood Police team for the area, they were able to identify a suspect - Gareth Wood of Turner Lane, Boughton.

When officers visited the 28 year-old’s home he became aggressive and threatened the officers with a piece of scaffolding board and his dog.

Wood was located and arrested on Saturday April 18.

Due to the amount of evidence gathered by officers, Wood was charged with two offences of threatening behaviour and a common assault.

Wood was kept in custody and put before Nottingham Magistrates' Court on Monday April 20 where he pleaded guilty to the two threatening behaviour offences and was sentenced to 16 weeks imprisonment and ordered to pay £200 compensation.
