A man has been charged after threatening Gardai in Dublin with knives and a hatchet before smashing up their patrol car in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Officers arrested the man, in his 30s, after responding to an assault and endangerment report in Skerries at 5am this morning.

Balbriggan Gardai arrived at the scene and found the man in front of a house in the area holding up the two knives and hatchet in front of them, Dublin Live reports.

The man threatened the officers with the weapons before smashing a window of the patrol car.

The man has since been charged and will appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice (Court 2) on Wednesday morning.
