Man threatened with crossbow as armed police descend on Liverpool street

Armed police descended on a street in Kirkdale after a man was threatened with a crossbow.

Emergency services were called to Westminster Road shortly before 9am on Tuesday to reports of the incident at an address on the street.

The road was closed between Melrose Road and Barlows Lane and bus diversions were put in place.

Photos from the scene showed police cars lining the street and officers stood on the road side.

Merseyside Police confirmed they attended following a report that a man had been threatened with a crossbow.

A 40-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of affray and was taken into custody for questioning.

The weapon was recovered and no one is believed to have been injured during the incident.

Road closures in place on Westminster Road have now been lifted.

A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "Emergency services are in attendance on Westminster Road, Kirkdale, this morning (Tuesday 30 March).

"At around 8.45am we received a report that a man had been threatened with a crossbow at an address on Westminster Road.

"Officers attended and arrested a 40-year-old man on suspicion of Affray.

"He has been taken into custody and will be questioned by police."

They added: "The weapon has now been recovered and no injuries were reported.

"Road closures in place on Westminster Road have now been lifted.
