Man threatened with chrome bar by thieves wearing face masks

A man was threatened with a chrome bar as he tried to stop thieves stealing a catalytic converter from his car.

Two thieves parked on the drive of a house in Main Street in Normanton and started to remove the catalytic converter of a car.

The car owner came out of his house shouting, with one of the suspects running to his getaway vehicle, described as a grey Skoda Octavia.

The other suspect then threatened the victim with a chrome bar and he retreated.

The suspects drove off in the Skoda, with the vehicle registration number KV11 VAY, turning left off the driveway towards the A6006.

Nottinghamshire Police are now appealing for witnesses to the robbery of the catalytic converter.

Catalytic converters control and convert exhaust emissions from vehicles into less toxic substances and are stolen for their metal.

The incident happened on June 30 at around 5.45pm.

Shannon Hutchinson, from Nottinghamshire Police, said: "The victim was left shaken by the incident and we are keen to identify the suspects.

"One suspect is described as white, in his early to mid-twenties, around 5ft 8ins tall and of medium build with dark neck-length straggly hair.

"He was wearing a dark coloured beanie style hat, a surgical type mask over his mouth and nose and an orange high visibility vest.

"The second suspect two can be described as white, in his early to mid-twenties, around 5ft 6ins tall and of medium build with neck-length dark curly hair.

"At the time he was wearing a dark coloured beanie style hat, a surgical mask covering his mouth and nose. He was wearing a dark coloured hoodie.

"Catalytic converter theft is an ongoing issue across the country and is enormously upsetting for the victims.

"The offence inevitably means that the car will be off the road for some time and repairs is also obviously very costly.
