Man threatened partner with knife during drunken row

A man threatened his male partner with a knife after a drinking session in Craigneuk.

Michael Beattie, 29, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court today.

He admitted threatening or abusive behaviour towards William Bryce at a house in Glencairn Avenue on June 20 last year.

Beattie, of Strowan Street, Glasgow, also admitted breaching bail conditions by being in Mr Bryce's company in Springhead Road, Allanton, on August 8.

He further admitted possession of cannabis on that occasion.

Neil Thomson, prosecuting, said both men had been drinking along with others at the Glencairn Avenue address.

Beattie became argumentative and at one point branded his partner and the others "morons".

Mr Bryce tried to calm him down, but Beattie started shouting abuse at him and grabbed a knife from the kitchen.

Mr Thomson told the court: "He brandished this towards Mr Bryce before throwing it down.

"There was then a brief struggle between the men and a call was made to the police."

Police investigating another incident in Allanton some weeks later spotted Beattie and Mr Bryce together on CCTV.

This was despite bail conditions designed to keep them apart.

Sheriff Colin Dunipace deferred sentence until June 11 for background reports.

Beattie, who admitted previous convictions, had his bail continued.
