Man tasered by police after throwing cans of alcohol at them during Pelaw disturbance

A man had to be tasered by police after throwing cans of alcohol at officers in Gateshead.

Police were called to the scene in Pelaw after reports of damage being caused to windows at York Street.

They then found a man trying to damage vehicles and homes who then began throwing the full cans at the officers.

The suspect was then tasered and arrested but had to be taken to hospital as he had suffered an injury during the earlier disturbance.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "Taser was deployed and the suspect was arrested.

"He was taken to hospital for treatment in relation to the injuries he sustained from causing the damage.

"No officers were injured during the incident."
