Man 'taken to safety' following rail bridge incident

A man was lifted to safety following an incident at a Wishaw rail bridge.

The alarm was raised at around midday, at the bridge on Glasgow Road near to University Hospital Wishaw.

Emergency services were quickly on the scene with all travel around the bridge was stopped.

ScotRail bosses informed customers that service alterations were in place while the incident was ongoing.

The company tweeted: “We’ve received reports of trespassing on the railway between Wishaw and Shieldmuir. We’re working closely with the emergency services at this time, and will update you soon.

“Service alterations will apply until further notice.”

Minutes later the company added: “We’ve been advised that emergency services have attended the scene and the person has now been taken to a place of safety. Services can safely resume.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed the incident and added: “The individual is safe and well and will be receiving the treatment that he needs.”
