Man taken to Queen's Medical Centre after car collides with a tree on the M1

A man had to be rescued from a car after being trapped in a serious crash.

Castle Donington Fire Station released the shocking pictures of the car which came off the road and hit a tree.

The accident happened around 2am on the M1 northbound carriageway  just after Junction 23 for Loughborough, reports DerbyshireLive.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said a man had been taken to hospital following the crash but his injuries were not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

A tweet from the Castle Donington Fire Station said: "We attended a road traffic collision along with Loughborough Station.

The crash happened at around 2am (Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service)

"One car had come off of the M1 into a ditch just after Junction 23 northbound at around 2am.

"Good team work ensured a swift extraction and the gentleman was taken to hospital."

A Leicestershire Police spokeswoman added: "We we called to the M1 northbound just after Junction 23 for a one-vehicle collision at 2.24am by Highways England.

"The driver was taken to the Queen's Medical Centre but it is believed his injuries are not thought to be life threatening or life changing."
