Man taken to hospital with 'several injuries' after Jesmond Dene fall

A man was taken to hospital after a Boxing Day fall left him with a number of injuries.

Police, ambulance and fire crews were called to Matthew Bank, which overlooks Jesmond Dene, at around 1.30pm on Saturday.

It is believed the man had fallen into the Dene.

Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service dispatched a rope rescue team, a water rescue team and a fire engine to bring the man to safety.

A spokesperson for the Tyne and Fire Rescue Service said: "We dispatched a water rescue team, a rope rescue team and a fire engine from Newcastle central.

"We rescued one casualty."

Paramedics then took the man to hospital where they were treated for several injuries.

A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: "We received a call at 13.39 to reports of a person falling near Matthew Bank near Gosforth.

"We sent one ambulance and four of our hazardous response teams.

"We took one patient to the hospital with several injuries."
