Man taken to hospital with 'serious injuries' following crash in Newport

A man has been taken to hospital with "serious injuries" following a crash involving a motorbike and a van.

The accident happened on Stow Hill in Newport near the Baneswell Social Club on Friday night at around 7.15pm.

It involved a Ford van with a trailer and a white motorbike.

Part of Stow Hill was closed by police from 7.15pm and Gwent Police and the Welsh Ambulance Service were in attendance.

Sgt Leighton Healan from Gwent Police said a man was taken to hospital with "serious injuries" and "people are asked to avoid the area".

There were three police cars and two police vans along with two ambulances and rapid response vehicles at the scene.

Details of the victim and his injuries have not yet been released by the emergency services.

The accident caused some traffic disruption in the area while it was closed.

Buses, including the number 151, were unable to continue their route.
