Man taken to hospital with serious injuries after collision in Tameside

A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a collision in Tameside.

Emergency services were called to the crash on Wellington Road in Ashton-under-Lyne at around 7.45pm last night (Thursday).

A pedestrian was struck by a car, police said.

A spokesperson from the North West Ambulance has now confirmed that a man was taken to hospital from the scene with serious injuries.

The driver remained at the scene following the crash.

It has not yet been confirmed whether any arrests were made.

In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: "At around 7.50pm on Thursday 21 January 2021, police received a report of a collision on Wellington Road, Ashton-Under Lyne.

"Officers attended and established that a vehicle and pedestrian had collided."

A spokesperson for NWAS said: "We were called to a road traffic collision on Wellington Road at 7.45pm and have attended with two response vehicles and an ambulance.

"We’ve taken a male patient to hospital with serious injuries."

Wellington Road was shut between Oldham Road and Lord Sheldon Way after the incident.

A number of police vehicles were in attendance and a cordon was in place.
