His condition is not thought to be life-threatening.

The driver of the bus is said to be helping officers with their enquiries and no arrests have been made.

Portland Street was cordoned off by police in both directions for a number of hours on Monday morning.

Bus services in the area had to be diverted as a result.

A spokesperson for GMP said: "We were called shortly after 4am to a report of a collision between a bus and a pedestrian on Portland Street.

"The pedestrian - a man in his 50s - was taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

"The bus driver is assisting police with their enquiries."
