Man taken to hospital with serious injuries after being found in Manchester city centre covered in blood

A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after being found stumbling the streets of Manchester covered in blood.

Police were called to King Street on Friday evening to reports of a possible robbery.

Several large pools of blood could be seen on the pavement outside All Bar One.

These were taped off along with nearby Sussex Street while forensic officers examined the scene.

Witnesses reported seeing a man 'with his face slashed' walking towards the bar, with drinkers apparently being told to stay indoors while police dealt with what was going on.

GMP have since confirmed that a man was taken to hospital, however his injuries were believed to be self inflicted.

Officers are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident and the man is receiving specialist support.

A spokesman for GMP said: "Shortly after 5.45pm on Friday, police were called to King Street in Manchester city centre to reports of a possible robbery.

"Officers attended and found a man nearby with serious injuries to his face.

"The man was taken to hospital to be treated for the injuries, which are not believed to be life threatening.

"Further enquiries have since confirmed that there was nobody else involved in the incident and no robbery had taken place.

"The man remains in hospital for treatment and is being provided with support from specialist agencies."
