Man taken to hospital with 'serious and potentially life changing head injuries' after assault

A man was taken to hospital with a serious head injury after an assault in south Manchester over the weekend.

The assault took place on Wilmslow Road in Rusholme at around 5:15am on Sunday (January 26).

Officers believe the incident took place after a disturbance opposite the junction of Thurloe Street.

A 33-year-old man was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical but stable condition.

"This was a brutal assault in which a man has suffered a serious and potentially life changing injury," said Detective Inspector Stuart Woodhead of GMP's City of Manchester division.

"There were a large number of people present at the time and I am appealing for any witnesses or anyone with footage of the incident to please speak to police as soon as possible.

“We are treating this assault very seriously and any information, no matter how insignificant you may feel it is, could prove vital as we piece together exactly what happened.”
