Assault outside Clifton Waitrose leaves man with 'neck wound'

A man has been taken to hospital after an assault in Clifton this morning (Thursday, November 12).

Avon and Somerset Police said a 44-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault causing actual bodily harm and is in police custody.

In a statement, the police force said: "We received a call from the ambulance service at about 9am this morning following reports of an assault in Queens Road, Clifton.

"A man in his 30s was found to have sustained an injury. He was taken to hospital by ambulance but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

"A 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault causing actual bodily harm and is in police custody."

Police said the victim appeared to have sustained a wound to their neck and that it was believed a key was used.

An eyewitness said they saw four police cars at the scene, adding they left shortly after the ambulance did so.

A business owner in the Triangle said she saw two police cars outside her shop at around 9.30am but that they didn't have the blue lights on.

Police said enquiries were ongoing.
