Man taken to hospital with 'major trauma' injuries after crash

A man was taken to hospital with "major-trauma related injuries" following a crash.

Cheshire Police, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service and North West Ambulance Service were called to Welsh Road, near the junction of Heath Lane, in Ellesmere Port, following reports of an incident at around 7.55pm on Wednesday, May 17. Once emergency services arrived at the scene they found four cars had crashed.

Police closed the road in both directions and passing cars were turned away from the scene by police officers. One fire engine from Powey Lane and the Major Rescue Unit from Winsford were called to the scene as a casualty was medically trapped in one of the cars.

Firefighters worked for over an hour to remove the casualty and they were passed into the care of the North West Ambulance Service. A spokesperson for the ambulance service said in an update today they took a man in his 40s to hospital to be treated for major-trauma related injuries.

A spokesperson for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said yesterday: "Crews are currently at the scene of a road traffic collision involving three vehicles. Firefighters are working to extricate one casualty who is medically trapped inside one of the vehicles.

"The casualty has now been removed from the vehicle and passed into the care of paramedics."

The road reopened shortly after 9pm. A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "At 5.45pm on Wednesday, May 17 police were called to reports of a collision on Welsh Road, at the junction of Margaret's Lane in Ellesmere Port.

"Police attended and found the collision involved four vehicles, two Ford limousines, a Vauxhall Insignia and a Peugeot 308. Initially, there were no reports of any serious injuries.

"However, while officers were dealing with the incident, one of the occupants began to feel unwell so fire were called to the scene to release the man from his vehicle and he was taken to hospital. The scene was cleared shortly after 9pm."
