Man taken to hospital with head injury after motorcycle collides with lamp post in South Shields

A man has been taken to hospital after a motorcycle collided with a lamp post in South Shields.

Emergency services were called to Sea Road on Tuesday morning after a collision involving a motorbike.

Police closed the road in both directions and a diversion was put in place.

The rider and his pillion passenger were both treated by paramedics at the scene and a man had to be taken to hospital with a head injury.

The road was fully reopened shortly before 11am once officers had cleared the scene.

A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: "At about 9.50am we received a report that a motorcycle had collided with a lamp post on Sea Road in South Shields.

"Emergency services attended the scene and the rider and his pillion passenger have both received medical treatment at the scene.

"Neither are believed to have suffered any life-threatening injuries."

A spokeswoman for the North East Ambulance Service added: "We were called today at 9.38am today to reports of a person injured as a result of an road traffic collision involving a motorbike on Pier Parade in South Shields.

"No other vehicles were involved.

"We deployed two ambulance crews and a rapid response paramedic and took one male patient to South Tyneside hospital with a head injury.”
