Man taken to hospital with head injuries after being hit by car in Killingworth

A man has been taken to hospital after being knocked over in Killingworth.

Emergency services were called to the scene near to The Station Pub at around 4.30pm on Tuesday following reports of a collision between a car and a person.

Paramedics found a man with chest and head injuries and he was taken to Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital.

The road was blocked for a short time while police cleared the scene and has now reopened.

A spokeswoman for the North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 4.29pm to reports that a male had been hit by a car on the junction of Station Road and Coniston Close.

"We sent one ambulance and we have transported the patient to Cramlington Hospital with chest and head injuries."

Northumbria Police has been contacted for comment.
