Man taken to hospital following 'disturbance' in Bridgend that saw armed police called

A man in his 30s has been taken to hospital following a "disturbance" which saw armed police called to a residential street in Bridgend.

The incident happened in Evans Street in the Kenfig Hill area at around 7.30pm on Thursday.

According to the Welsh Ambulance Service a man in his 30s was taken to the Princess of Wales Hospital. A spokesman for the service initially said they had been called to reports of a suspected stabbing but it is understood nobody was stabbed and the man's injuries were not caused with a knife or blade.

Emergency services at the scene on Evans Street

One resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, said armed police, ambulance workers, and the Welsh Air Ambulance were at the scene.

He said: "I initially went out to clap for the NHS but saw everyone was crowded looking down the road.

"Armed police were going into houses and searching the area. There must have been about 10 to 12 police cars all together.

"Cars were trying to get past the crowds and people were going down the street seeing if it was anyone they knew. It was almost as if there wasn’t a lockdown for that little while."

A South Wales Police spokesman said officers were called to a "disturbance" at around 7.15pm on Thursday.

"Firearms officers were deployed alongside uniformed officers as a precaution.

"One man was taken to hospital where he was treated for facial injuries and subsequently discharged.

"Inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the incident, and to identify those involved.

"Anyone with information who has yet to give an account to officers is asked to contact 101 quoting occurrence 2000157190."

A spokesman for the Welsh Ambulance Service said they were called at 7.35pm by South Wales Police to a suspected stabbing.
