Man taken to hospital following one-vehicle collision on the A1 near Seaton Burn

A man has been taken to hospital following a crash on the A1.

Emergency services were called to the scene north of Seaton Burn on Tuesday morning after reports of a one vehicle collision.

Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service were in attendance alongside paramedics and police.

The driver did not suffer any serious injuries but was taken to hospital with back pain.

Northumbria Police were forced to close the road for over two hours while recovery and the clear-up took place.

A spokesperson for the force said: “At 7.30am today (Tuesday) we received a report of a one-vehicle collision on the A1 northbound north of Seaton Burn.

“Thankfully, the male driver did not suffer serious injuries. The road was temporarily closed to allow a clear-up operation to take place."

A spokeswoman for the North East Ambulance Service added: "We were called at 7.25am to a road traffic collision on the A1 northbound at Seaton Burn.

"We dispatched a double-crewed ambulance and we have transported one male patient to the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital with lower back pain."
