Man taken to hospital following an assault at St Peter's Square tram stop

A man was taken to hospital after being attacked at a Manchester city centre tram stop.

The 35-year-old man was injured during an incident at St Peter's Square Metrolink station on Monday night.

Paramedics were called to the scene and treated the victim on the platform before taking him to hospital.

His condition has not been revealed.

Police were also called and arrested one suspect.

An investigation is underway.

A part of the platform was cordoned off.

The incident happened at around 9.30pm on Monday.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "At around 21.30hrs on 24/05/21 police were called to a report of a male having been assaulted on the Metrolink tram stop, St Peter's Square.

"Officers attended and established that a 35-year-old male had been assaulted and was receiving treatment from the North West Ambulance Services.

"One person has been arrested in connection with the assault and enquiries are still ongoing."

The incident appeared to cause no delays to Metrolink services.
