Man taken to hospital following a 'serious assault' in Newport at the weekend

A man has been discharged from hospital after police attended the scene of a serious assault in Newport over the weekend.

Officers from Gwent Police received a report of a serious assault on Commercial Road in Pill on Sunday, December 20 at around 3.45pm.

Armed officers attended the scene as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of the public and local officers following the incident, during which a 36-year-old man from Newport was taken to hospital.

The man has since been discharged from hospital, and his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

"We received a report of a serious assault in Commercial Road, Pill, Newport on Sunday, December 20 shortly after 3.45pm," a statement from Gwent Police said.

"A 36-year-old man from Newport was taken to hospital for treatment. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing. He has since been discharged from hospital.
