Man taken to hospital as cops close Erskine Bridge

A man has been hospitalised after Erskine Bridge was shut over a "police incident" this morning.

Police raced to the scene at around 7.40am over 'concern for a person' on the structure.

The man was then taken to Royal Alexandra Hospital 'as a precaution'.

Traffic Scotland also warned drivers that the crossing was closed while emergency services dealt with the situation.

It caused traffic chaos in the area with 'long tailbacks' reported.

But the road has now reopened.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received a report of a concern for a person on the Erskine Bridge, around 7.40am on Saturday, 26 September, 2020.

“A man was traced safely and conveyed to the Royal Alexandra Hospital as a precaution.

"The bridge was closed as a precaution while officers attended and is now re-opened.”

Scottish Fire and Rescue has also been contacted for comment.
