Man taken to hospital after suffering burns in house fire

A man has been taken to hospital after suffering burns in a house fire in Leigh.

The blaze broke out at a semi-detached property in Queensway, in the Higher Folds area of the town, shortly after 12.30pm today (Tuesday, December 29).

Four fire engines attended and began tackling the fire which had taken hold in a bedroom of the property, Greater Manchester Fire Rescue Service (GMFRS) said.

Firefighters donned breathing apparatus as they doused the flames.

A man in his 60s was later taken to hospital after suffering burns from the fire.

His injuries are described as 'superficial'.

Eyewitnesses reported that Queensway was taped off while emergency services dealt with the incident.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: "We were called to a house fire Queensway, in Leigh, at 12.31pm.

"Four fire engines from Farnworth, Atherton and Leigh attended and used breathing apparatus, two hoses and a fan.

"The fire was in the bedroom of a semi-detached house.

"One casualty, suffering from superficial burns, was taken to hospital. The individual was a man in his 60s."
