Man taken to hospital after 'serious assault' in Salford

A man was left with 'potentially serious injuries' following an early morning assault in Salford.

The victim, aged in his 50s, was attacked by 'unknown offenders' on Leicester Road, Higher Broughton.

The assault happened just before 3am today (Thursday).

A forensic tent was erected. The road was taped off near the junction with Devonshire Street.

Great Cheetham Street East, at the junction of Devonshire Street, was also cordoned off in both directions.

Police had left by around 9am.

The man was taken to hospital but it is unclear at this stage whether the victim's injuries are life threatening.

No arrests have been made.

A GMP spokesman said: "We had a report overnight of a serious assault. It happened just before 3am.

"We were called to reports the victim was a male in his 50s. He was attacked by unknown offenders. We are waiting for an update from the hospital to see how seriously injured he is.

"There is an ongoing investigation."
