Man taken to hospital after rescuing dog from icy lake

A man was taken to hospital after jumping into an icy lake to rescue a dog. North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said it was called at 12.40pm on Sunday to Acton Park in Wrexham.

A fire service spokesman told North Wales Live there was a report that a dog had gone through the ice. He said: "A member of the public went to try and get the dog to rescue it."

The fire service sent two crews from Wrexham but the 56-year-old man and the dog were already out of the water when they arrived. Firefighters gave first aid at the scene and the service's boat unit in Deeside was stood down.

An ambulance was also sent to the park. A spokesman for the Welsh Ambulance Service said it was informed of the incident just after 1pm.

The man's condition is not believed to be life-threatening. He was taken by ambulance to Wrexham Maelor Hospital for checks. You can get more of the latest breaking news from across Wales here.
