Man taken to hospital after medical emergency at Metrolink stop

A man was taken to hospital after a medical emergency at a Metrolink stop which caused services to be temporarily halted.

Paramedics were called to the Ashton stop in Tameside shortly before midday after the alarm was raised.

Services were partly suspended on the Ashton line as a result, with trams terminating prior to the stop whilst emergency services dealt with the incident.

Tickets were accepted on local bus services before services resumed shortly before 1:30pm.

A spokesman for the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) said: "We responded to a medical emergency following 999 call at 11.58.

"We have taken a man in his 40s to hospital."

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) also confirmed the incident was a medical emergency.

No further details about the incident or the man's condition have been disclosed.
