Man taken to hospital after major fire in south Bristol

A man has been taken to hospital with burns after a major fire broke out in south Bristol.

Avon Fire & Rescue Service was called to reports of a blaze on Winchester Road, Brislington at 7.20pm this evening (May 31).

Photographs shared on social media show a huge plume of black smoke billowing into the sky above the scene of the incident.

A spokesperson for Avon Fire & Rescue Service said the fire started in a garden shed before spreading to a vehicle parked nearby.

The fire service was called at 7.20pm (Lisa Rowland)

He said: "We were called at 7.22pm to Winchester Road in Brislington to reports of a shed fire.

"We mobilised three appliances and on arrival noticed that the fire had spread to a nearby vehicle.

"Crews tackled the fire and one 72-year-old man was taken to hospital with burns.

"Crews are still in attendance damping down."

Although the fire service remains at the scene as a precautionary measure, residents have said everything is now "under control" and the "fire is out".
