Man taken to hospital after Kilmarnock town centre assault

A man was taken to hospital after he was assaulted in Kilmarnock town centre last night.

The incident happened just before midnight in the Bank Street area.

Pictures show two police vans, a police car and an ambulance could be spotted at the scene dealing with the aftermath of what had happened.

An area of the street was also cordoned off by officers while the emergency services in attendance carried out their work.

A 24-year-old man was subsequently taken to nearby Crosshouse Hospital to receive treatment.

Police this afternoon confirmed that a 27-year-old man had been arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

He has since been released and looks set to appear before Kilmarnock Sheriff Court in due course.

A Police Scotland spokesperson told Ayrshire Live: “We received a report that a 24-year-old man had been assaulted outside a premises on Bank Street, Kilmarnock, around 11.55pm on Saturday, November 20.

"He was taken to Crosshouse Hospital for treatment.

"A 27-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection and released on an undertaking to appear in court at a later date."
