Man taken to hospital after firefighters called to blaze in house in Tameside

A man has been taken to hospital following a fire at a house in Tameside.

Firefighters and ambulance crews were called to Greenside Lane in Droylsden just after 7.45am on Wednesday.

It is understood the fire had broken out in the kitchen of the semi-detached property.

The man, whose age is not yet known, was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation and slight lacerations to the face.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue said they were on scene for around four hours.

They said: "At 7.48am on December 18, three fire engines from Philips Park, Ashton-under-Lyne and Gorton attended a fire at Greenside Lane, Droylsden, involving the kitchen of a semi-detached domestic property.

"Firefighters used two hose reels, four breathing apparatus, and breaking-in gear.

"One casualty suffering from smoke inhalation and slight lacerations to the face was conveyed to hospital by ambulance. Fire crews were in attendance for approximately four hours."

The North West Ambulance Service added: "We were called at 8am to Greenside Lane in Droylsden to reports of a fire.

"One patient was taken to Tameside Hospital."
