Man taken to hospital after fire at homeless hostel in Nottingham city centre

A man has been taken to hospital following a fire at a homeless hostel in Nottingham city centre.

Homelessness charity Framework's London Road hostel was cordoned off and occupants were evacuated from the premises while one man was "rescued".

The man was later taken to hospital for treatment by East Midlands Ambulance Service.

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service sent five fire engines with around 20 firefighters to the incident in London Road which began at 5.50pm on Tuesday, April 2.

Two lanes leading onto Canal Street were closed by police while the fire was dealt with, and an investigation is now underway.

Phil Revell, group manager for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: "We were called to a fire in a second floor flat of the Framework property.

"We rescued one male adult who has been taken to Queen's Medical Centre by EMAS.

"We are now investigating with the police and Framework's management team. A number of rooms are out of action while repair work is carried out.

"In attendance was two crews from London Road, one from West Bridgford and one from Carlton. We had around 20 firefighters in total."
