Man taken to hospital after crash on Gateshead flyover

A man was taken to hospital after a crash on a Tyneside flyover.

The collision, involving two cars, took place on the A167 Gateshead Highway at around 4.20pm on Sunday.

Emergency services arrived at the scene and diversions were put in place for drivers while they dealt with the incident.

One patient was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead by ambulance. Police said his injuries were thought to be minor.

A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: "We received a report of a road traffic collision on the A167 Gateshead Highway. Two vehicles were involved.

"One person was taken to hospital via ambulance."

A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service added: "We took a call at 4.17pm to reports of a road traffic collision involving two cars on the A167.

"We sent an ambulance and a hazardous area response team. We took one male patient to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital."
