Man taken to hospital after crash shuts road

A man was taken to hospital following a crash which caused a road to be blocked.

Police were called at around 9.10pm to Formby Bypass on Thursday following reports of a crash involving a Ford Fiesta and a BMW.

The two cars partially blocked the southbound carriageway at the Lady Green junction which is near the Shell garage.

Emergency services attended the scene and a fuel spillage was also reported.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police confirmed a man was taken to hospital following the crash, however the extent of his injuries is currently unknown.

The spokesperson for the force told the ECHO : "We received a report at around 9.10pm of a RTC on Formby Bypass involving two vehicles - a Ford Fiesta and a BMW.

"Emergency services arrived on scene including Mersey Fire and Rescue as there was a fuel spillage.

"One of the drivers was taken to hospital and the extent of injuries are unknown.

"The road was blocked for a while and it involved two male drivers."
