A man has been taken to hospital with possible chest injuries following a crash on a busy Bolton road.

Loxham Street, Moses Gate, was closed in both directions following the crash at around 11.20am on Wednesday (May 26).

Two vehicles were involved in the collision near the entrance of Moses Gate Park on Hall Lane.

A man in his 40s was taken to hospital by paramedics.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "Police were called at around 11.20am to a report of a collision involving two vehicles on Hall Lane, Bolton.

"Two people were taken to hospital as a precaution and both drivers remained at the scene."

A spokesperson for the North West Ambulance Service added: "We have now taken a man in his 40s to hospital with potential chest injuries."

Loxham Street was closed between Manchester Road, at the Moses Gate Interchange, and Little Lever School.

Drivers were urged to avoid the area this lunchtime following the crash, with heavy congestion on surrounding roads.

Bus services were diverted away from the area, with disruption for some routes.

In a post on Twitter, a Transport for Greater Manchester spokesperson said: "A6053 Loxham St, Bolton. Road closed in both directions.

"This is due to a road traffic collision.

"Bus services are subject to delay and diversions, please check with the operator."

A statement from the Inrix traffic monitoring system added: "A6053 Loxham Street in both directions closed, heavy traffic due to accident between A575 Manchester Road (Moses Gate Interchange) and Little Lever School.

"Occurred near the Moses Gate Park entrance."

The road was reopened shortly after 1pm.
