Man taken to hospital after collapsing near Northumberland pub

A man has been taken to hospital after he collapsed near a Northumberland pub.

Three police cars and an ambulance were called to the scene near the Cherry Tree bar, on Riversdale Avenue, Stakeford , on Friday afternoon.

The man was treated at the scene before paramedics took him to hospital.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "At 1.12pm today (Friday), police received a report of concern for a man on Wansbeck Avenue, Stakeford.

“Officers attended and found a man had collapsed.

"He is believed to be conscious and is currently being treated at the scene by ambulance staff."

The North East Ambulance Service later confirmed the man had been taken to hospital.

A spokesperson said: "We were called to a private address in the Stakeford area at 1.10pm.

"We dispatched a rapid response paramedic and a double-crewed ambulance and we transported one patient to the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital ."
