Man taken to hospital after climbing on top of gas holder on Alan Turing Way

A man who climbed on top of a gas holder on Alan Turing Way has been brought to safety.

The busy east Manchester road was closed in both directions near the Etihad football stadium, just after 4pm on Monday.

Police and ambulance crews said they were dealing with a 'concern for welfare.

Pictures sent to the Manchester Evening News showed a person on top of gas works by the road.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed on Tuesday morning, that police negotiators had managed to bring the male to safety at around 6pm.

The man was taken to hospital following the incident, but is not believed to have been physically injured.

Alan Turing Way between Bradford Road and Gibbon Street has since reopened.

A spokesperson for GMP said: "A number of road closures were in place regarding the male on the Gas Holder at ATW.

"He was brought to safety just after 18.00pm with the help of police negotiators and taken to hospital."
