A man was taken to hospital after being brought down from the roof of Trafford Town Hall.
Police surrounded the hall, home to Trafford Council , when a man was spotted clambering onto the roof of the 1930s building at around 7.50am on Wednesday morning (May 22).
Eyewitnesses described seeing the man scaling part of the red-brick structure close to the green dome.
Warwick Road and the town hall were closed for more than two hours while police and emergency crews worked to bring the man down.
He was eventually brought down and taken to hospital for assessment by officers at around 10.40am. A GMP spokesman said that a man was detained under the Mental Health Act.
The town hall was closed to the public.
Kelly Harris was walking through the town hall on her way to take her stepchildren to school when she saw the man on the roof.
“I was there at about 9.30am and saw him get on the roof,” she told the M.E.N.
“I was not allowed down part of the main road. I thought there had been an accident at first. Then I saw him climbing up on the roof and realised what was happening.
“I thought he was going to fall at first.”
A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “Shortly after 7.50am this morning (Wednesday 22 May 2019), police were called to the Trafford Town Hall on Talbot Road, Trafford to reports of a concern for the welfare of a man."
