Man taken to hospital after car flips onto its side in serious taxi crash

A man has been taken to hospital after a car flipped onto its side following a crash in north Manchester.

Emergency services were called to Droylsden Road in Newton Heath this afternoon (January 5) to reports of a collision between a car and a taxi at around 2.10pm.

Crews from Greater Manchester Fire Service had to rescue two men from a vehicle.

One man was taken to hospital with a potential back injury, the North West Ambulance Service confirmed.

The other man wasn't injured during the crash.

Pictures from the scene show a number of police vehicles and fire crews parked nearby.

A local resident said: "I heard the fire engines and police going past my house as I live on Droylsden Road.

"I went out on the front and could see a car on its side and the fire men trying to get someone out.

"I'm not sure how many in the car, then they took a stretcher to the car, and the ambulance turned up an hour later."

GMP confirmed they were called to a report of a road traffic collision involving a car and a taxi on Droylsden Road at 2.10pm today.

A spokesperson for NWAS said: "Two men were released from a vehicle, one was taken to hospital with a potential back injury.

"The other wasn’t injured."

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "At around 2:10pm today (5 January 2022), two fire engines from Philips Park and Hollins fire stations, along with the Technical Response Unit from Ashton-under-Lyne were called to a road traffic accident involving two cars on Droylsden Road, Manchester.

"Firefighters worked quickly and used specialist equipment to make the scene safe and rescue two people from one of the vehicles who were then conveyed into the care of North West Ambulance Service.

"Crews were in attendance for approximately 40 minutes."
