Man taken to hospital after being struck by tram at Sale Metrolink station

A man has been taken to hospital after being struck by a tram at Sale Metrolink station.

Police, fire crews and the ambulance service were called to reports of a collision at the tram stop, on School Road, at around 10.15pm on Monday.

The man was trapped under the Metrolink, with firefighters using specialist equipment to raise the tram and release him.

He was taken to hospital by the North West Ambulance Service.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said his injuries are not believed to be serious.

Eyewitnesses said there was a large emergency services response to the collision.

Altrincham services were temporarily suspended and a section of the Metrolink station was cordoned off.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called at 10.15pm to Sale Metrolink station to reports of a tram colliding with a pedestrian.

"Three fire engines and one technical response unit used specialist equipment to raise the tram up to remove the casualty.

"The man was handed over to the North West Ambulance Service."
