Man taken to hospital after being stabbed in the street near Deansgate Locks

A man has been taken to hospital after being stabbed in the street in Manchester city centre.

Police were called to Albion Street at around 4.30am on Saturday, August 3, to reports of a stabbing.

Emergency services went to the scene and a man believed to be in his 20s was taken to hospital with a stab wound.

A GMP spokesperson said his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

A police cordon was in place on Albion Street this morning.

Street sealed off in city centre following stabbing

The scene was just metres away from the bars and restaurants on Deansgate Locks and The Briton's Protection pub.

At least two police vans and two police cars were present.

The road was been taped off between the junctions for Whitworth Street West and Bridgewater Street.

It has since reopened.

Inside the cordon, a car could be seen parked up at the side of the road.

There also appeared to be some objects strewn across the floor.

A GMP spokesperson said: "Police were called around 4.30am on Saturday 3 August 2019 to a report of a stabbing on Albion Street, Manchester City Centre.

"Emergency services attended and a man believed to be aged in his 20s was taken to hospital with a stab wound that is not believed to be life threatening."

Enquiries are ongoing.
