Man taken to hospital after being stabbed during fight in Eccles town centre

A man has been taken to hospital after being stabbed during an 'altercation' in Eccles town centre.

The grounds of Eccles Parish Church were cordoned off by police following the attack at about 6.30pm on Thursday.

Police say the man, 26, suffered a stab wound to his arm during a fight with another man.

His condition is described as stable.

Police say no arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.

In a statement GMP said: "At around 6.40pm on Thursday police were called to reports of a stabbing on Church Street in Eccles.

"Initial enquiries have established that the incident happened during an altercation between two men.

"Emergency services attended and a 26-year-old man was taken to hospital with a stab wound to his arm where he remains in a stable condition."

Following the fight detectives were seen checking CCTV in the area.

All the entrances to the churchyard were blocked off with police standing guard at the cordon.
